The film depicts the conflicting and queasy state of those who are left behind while many others go overseas. Nai Qing is one of them left behind. Her husband goes to San Francisco. She meets Jia Dong, a taxi driver whose wife is in Japan. They feel lonely and fall in love with each other...Nai Qing is pregnant, she in eager to let Jia Dong know this and call him. But it is his wife who returns from Japan receives her call. Finally Nai Qing makes up her mind to go to San Francisco. Jia Dong hurries to see her off.
