Training Rules is a 2009 documentary which follows the lives of college female athletes caught in a world of homophobia and discrimination. The film sheds light on the shocking and homophobic practices of college athletic programs, and the way in which these practices limit the potential of many of their most promising female athletes. In particular, the film outlines the case of Rene Portland, the girl's basketball coach of Penn State University over a 27-year-period from the 1980s into the 21st century, who regularly enforced discriminatory practices against lesbian athletes on her teams.
