Trancers: City of Lost Angels is a science fiction action film released in 1988, directed by David Nutter and starring Tim Thomerson, Alyson Croft, and Helen Hunt. The movie is a sequel to the 1984 film Trancers and is set in the year 2247 in Los Angeles. The plot follows the main protagonist, Jack Deth, a time-traveling cop from the future who tries to stop a group of zombie-like beings called Trancers from taking over the city.
The movie begins with Jack Deth (Tim Thomerson) receiving a transmission from a council member from the future, Whistler. He informs Deth that there is a group of Trancers in Los Angeles that are amplifying their powers and could eventually take over the city. At this point, Deth is sent back in time to the year 1988 to stop them.
Once in the past, Deth realizes that he has arrived in a slightly different timeline than the one he is used to, and that his old boss, McNulty, is no longer alive. Instead, he meets a new partner, Lena Deth (Alyson Croft), who is also a time-traveling cop. Together, they must track down and destroy the Trancers before they can create too much damage.
During their investigation, Jack and Lena come across a group of homeless people living in the sewers who are being used as hosts by the Trancers. They eventually discover that the chief of Los Angeles police, McNulty's replacement, has formed an alliance with the Trancers in exchange for immortality. Jack and Lena face a race against time to stop the Trancers and their newfound ally from taking over the city.
As they chase the Trancers, Jack and Lena face various challenges, including being arrested by the LAPD and trying to convince the homeless people to help them. Meanwhile, they discover that the mysterious leader of the Trancers, played by Helen Hunt, is not who they thought she was.
The special effects in the movie are quite impressive for its time, with the scenes set in the future being particularly well-done. There are also some explosions and other action scenes to keep audiences engaged.
The characters in Trancers: City of Lost Angels are fairly well-developed, with Jack Deth being the standout. He is a classic action hero with a sense of humor, and his interactions with his new partner Lena are entertaining. Alyson Croft does a good job as Lena, but her character doesn't have as much depth as Jack's. Helen Hunt's character is also well-portrayed, although she doesn't have as much screen time as the two time-traveling cops.
Overall, Trancers: City of Lost Angels is a fun science fiction movie that should appeal to fans of the genre. There is plenty of action, a decent plot, and some good character development. While it may not be a classic, it is an enjoyable adventure that will hold the attention of viewers.
Trancers: City of Lost Angels is a 2013 action movie with a runtime of 24 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.2.
