Uthama Puthiran is a 1958 Tamil romantic comedy film directed by T. Prakash Rao and produced by Modern Theatres. The film starring Sivaji Ganesan in a dual role opposite Padmini, M.N. Nambiar, and Rajasulochana in supporting roles. The story revolves around Sivaji Ganesan who plays the role of a young prince named Raja Raja, who is adopted by a poor man after being stranded on the streets as an infant. He grows up to be a brave and kind-hearted young man who never forgets his roots. He is in love with the beautiful princess of his kingdom, played by Padmini, but due to his low status, he is unable to express his feelings for her.

The other role played by Sivaji Ganesan is that of a cowardly mute, who is the actual prince and rightful heir to the throne of the kingdom. The mute prince, who is unaware of his true identity, is kept hidden by his evil uncle played by M.N. Nambiar, who wants to take over the kingdom and rule as the king himself.

The plot thickens when the mute prince is sent to another kingdom to marry the princess of that kingdom, played by Rajasulochana, as part of a political alliance. But, due to a mix-up, Raja Raja, who is mistaken as the mute prince, ends up marrying the princess.

The rest of the story follows Raja Raja trying to keep up the pretense of being the mute prince, while also trying to win the love of his own princess, Padmini. He faces several challenges and obstacles along the way, including threats from his evil uncle, who gets wind of the situation and tries to sabotage the alliance.

However, with the help of his loyal friends and allies, Raja Raja is able to overcome these challenges, expose his uncle's treachery, and reunite with his true love, Padmini.

The film is a classic example of Sivaji Ganesan's acting prowess, as he seamlessly transitions between his dual roles, each with its own distinct personality and mannerisms. Padmini's portrayal of the beautiful and charming princess is also noteworthy, as she effortlessly captures the character's grace and elegance.

The film's music, composed by G. Ramanathan, is also a highlight, with several catchy and memorable tunes that have stood the test of time. The song "Enthan Kannalan" in particular, sung by A.M. Rajah and Jikki, is a fan favorite and continues to be popular even today.
