Vasantha Maligai is a Tamil movie from 1972, directed by KS Prakash Rao and produced by K. Balaji. The movie stars Shivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Padmini, Vanisri, and Pandari Bai in pivotal roles. The movie revolves around the life of Srinivasan (Shivaji Ganesan), a young and wealthy man who falls in love with a village belle Malathi (Vanisri). Though Malathi reciprocates his feelings, she is hesitant to accept his proposal as she is unsure if her orthodox father would approve of their relationship.

Srinivasan takes Malathi to his palatial mansion, Vasantha Maligai, to win over her heart. Malathi is hesitant to lead a life of luxury, and Srinivasan realizes this. He disguises himself as a poor man, takes up a job as a laborer, and starts living in Malathi's village. He wins over the hearts of the villagers and teaches them the value of hard work.

Meanwhile, Srinivasan's mother (Pandari Bai) is eager to get him married. She arranges for him to meet Girija (Padmini), a woman from a rich family. Initially, Srinivasan is attracted to Girija's beauty and elegance but soon realizes that she is a gold digger who is only interested in his wealth.

While Srinivasan is living in the village, he learns about Malathi's father's plan to get her married to a rich man. He rushes back to the city and confronts Malathi's father. After a few twists and turns, Malathi's father finally accepts their relationship, and Srinivasan and Malathi get married.

However, their joy is short-lived as Srinivasan's mother refuses to accept Malathi into their family as she is not from a rich background. Srinivasan decides to leave his mother's house and start a new life with Malathi.

The movie offers a unique perspective on the class divide in Indian society. It shows how people from different economic backgrounds struggle to bridge the gap between them and how societal norms and traditions can often come in the way of true love.

The performances of the cast are noteworthy. Shivaji Ganesan delivers a powerful performance as Srinivasan. His portrayal of a man torn between his love and his responsibilities is convincing. Vanisri shines as Malathi, a strong-willed woman who knows what she wants from life. Padmini plays the role of a seductress with finesse.

The movie's music, composed by MS Viswanathan and TK Ramamoorthy, is another highlight. The songs, especially "Aattukkutti Muttai Ittu," are still popular among listeners.

Overall, Vasantha Maligai is a classic film that is still relevant in today's society as it deals with themes like love, class divide, and societal norms that are still prevalent. It is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys good cinema.
