Voices is a low-budget independent film that explores the complexities of human connection in the age of social media. Directed by Joel Petrie, the movie centers around four characters who are struggling to navigate the challenges of modern communication. The main character is David, played by Jordan Blair Mangold Brown. David is an introverted writer who is struggling to finish his first novel. He lives alone in a small apartment and spends most of his time listening to music and staring at his computer screen. David's only real connection to the outside world is through social media, where he has developed a following for his poignant and honest posts about loneliness and depression.

One day, David receives a friend request from a woman named Rachel (played by Ozzie Carnan Jr.). Rachel is a musician who is new to town and looking to make friends. David is initially hesitant to accept the request, but he is intrigued by Rachel's profile and decides to take a chance.

As David and Rachel begin to communicate online, they discover that they have a lot in common. They both love music and share a passion for creative writing. They start to exchange messages regularly, sharing their thoughts and feelings about art, life, and everything in between.

But as David and Rachel's virtual friendship deepens, they start to grapple with the challenges of translating their online connection into real-life interactions. They are both shy and hesitant, and they worry that the high expectations they have built up in their heads will be impossible to live up to in person.

Meanwhile, two other characters are also struggling with their own communication issues. Karen (played by Alicia Gargaro-Magana) is a young woman who is dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic event. She is trying to reach out to others for support, but she finds that nobody seems to want to listen. And then there is Adam (played by Seth Hendricks), a musician who is struggling to break out of his comfort zone and pursue his dreams.

As the movie progresses, the four characters begin to cross paths in unexpected ways. There are moments of joy and connection, as well as moments of heartbreaking miscommunication and missed opportunities. Throughout it all, the movie examines the ways in which we use technology to connect with others, and the limitations of those connections.

Overall, Voices is a small but powerful film that offers a nuanced and heartfelt exploration of modern communication. The performances are strong across the board, and the movie is anchored by a profound empathy for its characters and the challenges they face. While it may not be a flashy or action-packed movie, it offers plenty of food for thought and leaves a lasting impression.

Voices is a 2017 drama with a runtime of 5 minutes.
