Rising inequality is a central feature of the past decades. The richest 0.01% in the world own close to 50% of global wealth. Yet from World War Two to the middle of the 1970s, the gap between rich and poor shrank. The share of income earned by the richest 1% clearly fell in several countries. In Canada it even halved, going from 17% to 8%.
