We Joined the Navy is a 1962 British comedy film directed by Val Guest and starring Kenneth More, Lloyd Nolan, and Joan O'Brien. The movie tells the story of Lieutenant Commander Robert Badger (Kenneth More), a Royal Navy officer who is given the task of taking a British submarine to the Mediterranean to participate in military exercises with the US Navy.

However, when Badger and his crew arrive in the Mediterranean, they find that the exercises have been cancelled due to a political crisis. As a result, they are assigned to escort the US aircraft carrier USS Sicily to an island in the Adriatic where a group of British and American dignitaries are meeting to discuss a peace treaty.

Along the way, the crew of the submarine encounter numerous challenges and mishaps, including difficult weather conditions, mechanical failures, and encounters with hostile forces. They also become embroiled in a love triangle when Badger falls in love with a beautiful American nurse named Lt. Dolores Phipps (Joan O'Brien), who is also romantically involved with the captain of the USS Sicily.

As they continue on their mission, the crew of the submarine must navigate dangerous waters and fend off enemy attacks while also trying to juggle their personal lives and conflicting loyalties. Along the way, they learn valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and the importance of international cooperation in times of crisis.

One of the standout elements of We Joined the Navy is its humorous and lighthearted tone, which makes for an enjoyable and entertaining viewing experience. The film also features some impressive special effects for its time, particularly in its depictions of underwater sequences and naval battles.

Kenneth More delivers a strong performance as the charismatic and resourceful Lieutenant Commander Badger, while Lloyd Nolan brings a sense of gravitas and authority to his role as the captain of the USS Sicily. Joan O'Brien provides solid support as the love interest of both male leads, bringing both beauty and intelligence to her role as the independent and capable Lt. Phipps.

Overall, We Joined the Navy is an engaging and enjoyable film that combines elements of romance, comedy, and action-adventure. Its message of cooperation and unity in the face of crisis remains as relevant today as it was when the film was originally released over half a century ago.
