In Agatha Christie's Criminal Games season 2 episode 2, titled "Murder Is Easy", viewers follow the story of an elderly woman named Lavinia Pinkerton who believes that a serial killer is on the loose in her rural village. When Lavinia is found dead the next day, her friend Miss Marple is inclined to believe that the old woman was onto something, and sets out to investigate.
Miss Marple first interviews the local physician, Dr. Thomas Royde, who is also Lavinia's nephew. He tells Miss Marple that Lavinia often obsessed over the idea of a serial killer in the village, but that there was no tangible evidence to support her claims. Miss Marple is not convinced, and begins to dig deeper into the circumstances surrounding Lavinia's death.
One of the first clues Miss Marple uncovers is a cryptic message left by Lavinia in a notebook. The message reads "The murderer is..", but the last word is indecipherable. Miss Marple believes that the missing word may be the key to solving the case, and sets out to identify the individuals in the village who could have had the motive and opportunity to kill Lavinia.
In her investigation, Miss Marple discovers that there are several individuals who could have had a reason to want Lavinia dead. These include Lavinia's estranged husband, a local writer who was angered by Lavinia's editing of his work, and a former acquaintance of Lavinia's who was recently released from prison. Miss Marple is skeptical of all of these suspects, however, and continues to search for more clues.
As the investigation continues, Miss Marple discovers a hidden diary that belonged to Lavinia. In the diary, Lavinia details her suspicions that a local woman named Mary Barton was behind the string of murders in the village. Miss Marple confronts Mary, and learns that she is in fact the serial killer. Mary confesses to killing Lavinia in order to protect her own identity, and Miss Marple is able to bring her to justice.
Overall, "Murder Is Easy" is a classic Agatha Christie whodunit that keeps audiences guessing until the very end. Miss Marple's sharp wit and intuition make for a compelling lead character, and viewers will enjoy following along as she unravels the tangled web of clues surrounding Lavinia's death.
