The show America Says is a fast-paced game show where two teams compete against each other to fill in the blanks with the most popular answers to survey questions taken throughout America. In season one, episode five, titled The Walkers vs. Opera Pals, two teams with vastly different backgrounds, knowledge, and experiences come together to compete for a cash prize.
The first team, The Walkers, consists of four friends from Long Beach, California. They are all avid walkers and love nothing more than exploring the city on foot. The team captain, Carole, is a retired teacher who spends her free time volunteering at a local hospital. Jim, her husband, is a retired engineer who now spends his time cultivating his garden. Their friends, Mike and Peggy, are also retired and enjoy exploring the outdoors and traveling.
The second team, Opera Pals, consists of four friends from Beverly Hills, California. They are all opera enthusiasts and regularly attend the Los Angeles Opera. The team captain, Anton, is a dentist who also sings in his free time. He is joined by his friend, Diana, a retired lawyer who has been an opera fan for over 40 years. Their friends, Angela and Michael, are also opera aficionados and love nothing more than discussing their favorite operas.
As the game begins, host John Michael Higgins gives each team a category, and they must come up with the top seven responses to the survey question. For example, in the "Things in the Sky" category, they might be asked to name the top seven things one might see in the sky.
As each team offers up their answers, the board lights up with the top survey responses. The team with the most correct answers at the end of each round wins points. The first team to reach 300 points wins the game and advances to the bonus round for a chance to win $15,000.
Throughout the game, tensions run high as The Walkers and Opera Pals battle back and forth for the lead. The Walkers' experience with the outdoors and travel pays off, as they dominate the "Things You Would Find on a Hike" and "Tourist Attractions" categories. Opera Pals, on the other hand, excel in categories like "Famous Composers" and "Songs That Mention Love."
As the game continues, both teams show remarkable strategy and teamwork, working together to come up with the best possible answers. However, as the game draws to a close, it becomes clear that only one team can emerge victorious.
The tension is palpable as John Michael Higgins announces the final question, asking the teams to name "Things Associated with Gold." Both teams rack their brains, shouting out answers as the clock counts down. In the end, it all comes down to the final points, and the winning team takes home the prize.
Overall, America Says season one episode five, The Walkers vs. Opera Pals, is an exciting and engaging game show that showcases the knowledge and strategy of both teams. With fast-paced action and nail-biting suspense, viewers are sure to be on the edge of their seats until the very end.
