America Says Season 5 Episode 1 Mommy Friends vs. Anime Gamers

  • April 25, 2022

America Says is a quiz show where two teams of four compete against each other to identify popular answers to survey questions. In the fifth season, the first episode pits mommy friends against anime gamers.

The mommy friends team is comprised of four stay-at-home moms who met at a local mommy group. They are competitive and eager to win the grand prize of $15,000. They are up against the anime gamers team, consisting of four friends who bond over their love of Japanese animation and video games. They are confident and believe that their extensive knowledge of anime and gaming will give them the edge over their opponents.

As the show starts, host John Michael Higgins asks the first question: "Name a popular movie superhero that wears a red cape." The teams quickly buzz in and the mommy friends team gets the chance to answer first. They answer "Superman," but it's not the top answer. The anime gamers team get their chance to answer and correctly guess "Batman." They win the round and get to continue on to the next question.

The game continues and both teams are doing well, with each team having won multiple rounds. The questions are a mix of pop culture, current events, and everyday knowledge. There are questions about Taylor Swift, the World Series, and even a question about the capital of Brazil.

One round has John Michael Higgins reading out a scenario and the teams have to guess what word goes in the blank. The scenario is "My friends and I have a ___________ night every month where we exchange clothes." The mommy friends team guesses "girls" and it's a match. The anime gamers team guesses "fashion" but it's not a match.

Another round has the teams guessing what word completes a phrase. For example, the phrase "happy _____" is completed with the word "birthday." The mommy friends team guesses "feet" for "happy ____" which is not a match. The anime gamers correctly guess "birthday" and win the round.

As the game progresses, tensions rise between the two teams. There is playful banter and friendly competition, but both teams are determined to win. They are neck-and-neck throughout the show, with no team gaining a significant lead.

The final round is where the game is won or lost. The teams are given a truncated phrase and they have to guess the missing word. The team with the most correct answers in the final round wins the game and the grand prize of $15,000.

The mommy friends team gets the first question and they correctly guess "up" for the phrase "____ and about." The anime gamers team gets the next question and they also correctly guess "down" for the phrase "____ and out." The game continues like this, with both teams guessing correctly and adding to their score.

As the final seconds of the game tick down, the mommy friends team is in the lead by one point. The anime gamers team gets one final chance to answer the next question and make a comeback. The phrase is "divide and _____" and the anime gamers team answers "conquer." It's a match and they tie the game.

The tie-breaker round is a sudden-death round. The first team to buzz in and correctly guess the missing word wins. The phrase is "couch _____" and the mommy friends team buzzes in and correctly guesses "potato." They win the game and the grand prize of $15,000.

The mommy friends team celebrates and hugs each other, while the anime gamers team are gracious in defeat. Both teams shake hands and pose for a group photo. It's a fun and entertaining episode of America Says, showcasing the diversity and knowledge of the contestants.
