- September 26, 2022
Sign Language Squad takes on Theatre Lovers in a fun and exciting episode of America Says season 5. Host John Michael Higgins guides the contestants through several rounds of guessing phrases based on popular survey responses.
The Sign Language Squad is comprised of four deaf contestants who communicate using American Sign Language. They are up against the Theatre Lovers, a group of four enthusiastic fans of Broadway shows.
The competition starts off with the "Fast Money" round, where each team is given 60 seconds to guess as many phrases as possible. The Sign Language Squad gets off to a strong start, easily guessing phrases like "high five" and "thumbs up." The Theatre Lovers struggle a bit more, but manage to rack up a decent score.
Next up is the "Three Strikes" round, where each team takes turns guessing phrases until they get three strikes, or incorrect guesses. This round proves to be more challenging, as both teams struggle with some of the more obscure survey responses. However, the Sign Language Squad seems to have an edge, as they are able to use gestures and body language to communicate with each other and come up with the correct answers.
The third round is the "Head to Head" round, where one member from each team goes head-to-head guessing phrases. The tension is high as each team tries to outguess the other. The Sign Language Squad continues to impress with their quick thinking and teamwork, while the Theatre Lovers use their theater knowledge to their advantage.
The final round of the game is the "Big Money" round, where each team has a chance to win $15,000. The team with the most points after the first three rounds gets to go first. They are given a category and must guess as many phrases as possible within a time limit. The Sign Language Squad manages to successfully guess 7 out of the 10 phrases in the "Classic TV Characters" category, giving them a score of 70.
The Theatre Lovers are up next, and they have a chance to win if they can guess all 10 phrases in their category, "Famous Quotes." They get off to a good start, guessing phrases like "May the Force be with you" and "Houston, we have a problem." However, they stumble on the last few phrases and are unable to guess them all, leaving them with a final score of 60.
In the end, the Sign Language Squad emerges as the winners with a final score of 270 to the Theatre Lovers' 250. Both teams show great sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout the game, making for an entertaining and heartwarming episode of America Says.
