Brotherhood Outdoors Season 5 Episode 11 Boca Grande Tarpon at Hill Tide

  • January 1, 2013

Brotherhood Outdoors season 5 episode 11 titled "Boca Grande Tarpon at Hill Tide" follows host Daniel Lee Martin as he takes two brothers, Brian and Colin Marling, on a fishing trip to Boca Grande, Florida. The Marling brothers are avid hunters and fishermen, but they've never had the opportunity to catch tarpon before, and they're looking forward to the challenge.

The episode starts with the group arriving at their accommodations for the trip - a beautiful beach house right on the water. Daniel shows the brothers around and they discuss the day's plans. They'll be fishing for tarpon in the shallow waters off the coast of Boca Grande, which is known for having some of the largest tarpon in the world.

The next morning, the group heads out on the water bright and early. They're joined by Captain Brett Norris, a local tarpon fishing expert. Brett explains the different techniques they'll be using to catch the fish, including casting live bait and sight fishing. The Marling brothers are eager to learn and ask plenty of questions. Daniel is also excited to be back on the water, as he used to be a professional fishing guide before becoming a TV host.

The first few hours of fishing are slow, with no tarpon bites. The group remains optimistic, however, and continues to cast their lines. They're rewarded with a few small fish, which they release back into the water. The highlight of the morning comes when they spot a school of tarpon swimming nearby. Daniel and the brothers cast their live baits into the water, hoping to entice a bite. They see the tarpon swimming around the bait, but none of them take it. Despite the disappointment, the group remains undeterred and continues to search for tarpon throughout the day.

As the day wears on, the weather starts to pick up. A storm moves in, causing choppy waters and heavy rain. The group decides to head back to shore for safety reasons. Despite not catching any tarpon, the Marling brothers are thrilled with the experience and grateful for the opportunity to spend time on the water with Daniel.

The next day, the weather has cleared up and the group heads back out on the water. This time, they're joined by Captain Chris O'Neill, another local fishing guide. Chris takes the group to a spot called Hill Tide, which is known for being a prime tarpon location. The group spends the day casting their lines and waiting for a bite. They see some tarpon swimming around their boat but can't seem to get them to take the bait.

As the day wears on, the group begins to tire. They've been casting their lines for hours with no luck. Daniel encourages them to keep going and stay positive. He remembers one of his old fishing sayings, "The bite is always just a cast away." His words prove to be true, as the group finally gets a bite. Brian is the lucky one who catches the tarpon, and he manages to reel it in after a long struggle. The brothers are ecstatic and high five each other in celebration.

The rest of the day is spent catching more tarpon and enjoying the experience. The group even tries their hand at releasing the tarpon mid-air, a technique called "bowing to the king." They all marvel at the strength and size of the fish, which can weigh up to 200 pounds. The Marling brothers are grateful for the opportunity to catch these incredible fish and will always remember their time in Boca Grande.

As the episode comes to a close, the group heads back to shore with huge grins on their faces. They talk about the highlights of the trip and say goodbye to their fishing guides. Daniel reminds the brothers that the true joy of fishing isn't just in catching the fish, but in spending time on the water with friends and family. The Marling brothers agree and thank Daniel for the experience. The episode ends with a shot of the fishing boat sailing off into the sunset, a perfect end to an unforgettable fishing trip.
