The second episode of season 2 of Derry Girls focuses on the upcoming prom, which every student is eagerly anticipating. The show follows the lives of a group of teenage girls growing up in Northern Ireland during the 1990s, with the Troubles providing a constant backdrop to their daily lives.

The episode begins with the girls discussing their prom outfits and trying on dresses, with Clare feeling left out as she hasn't been asked to go yet. Meanwhile, Erin is hoping to have a magical prom experience, complete with a romantic slow dance and a declaration of love from her crush, James.

As the day of the prom approaches, the girls are excitedly making plans and getting ready, while Clare's anxiety about not having a date continues to grow. However, their plans are threatened when they find out that there's been a bomb scare at the school and the prom might be cancelled.

The girls are devastated, but they refuse to let the situation ruin their night. They decide to hold their own impromptu prom at a friend's house, complete with balloons, snacks, and homemade punch. It's not exactly the magical night they had hoped for, but they all have a great time anyway, dancing and laughing together.

In the midst of the chaos, the girls learn more about each other and their lives outside of school. For example, we see more of Aunt Sarah, who is a prominent figure in Erin's life, and we learn that Orla's father has a slightly unusual job that involves carrying out inspections of international treaties.

As the night wears on, emotions run high and the girls are forced to confront their fears and insecurities. Clare opens up about her anxiety and her struggles to fit in, while Erin finally has a heart-to-heart with James and reveals her true feelings.

The episode ends on a bittersweet note, with the girls coming to terms with the fact that their prom night wasn't quite what they had hoped for, but was still a memorable and meaningful experience. As they curl up together on a sofa, covered in glitter and dance sweat, we are reminded once again of the strong bonds of friendship that unite this group of girls and make them such a joy to watch.
