The Morning Show
- 1 Season
In the drama series The Morning Show, the cast and crew of a morning news show confront the issues of the day. Alex and Mitch have been anchoring the fictional program for 15 years. When Mitch is fired over a sexual misconduct allegation, Alex fights to be the show's primary anchor. Her goal is hindered by the appearance of former field reporter on the set. The series is reportedly inspired by the book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV by Brian Stelter. Stelter is a journalist who has worked for CNN, and The New York Times. The Morning Show tries to take a critical look at actual current events. At the time that it debuted, issues of sexual misconduct and gender equity rocked the world of TV news. The series airs on the Apple TV+ streaming platform. It was one of the most high-profile offerings at the time of the platform's launch in November 2019. The 10-episode first season aired in November and December of that year. Production of the series' second season began in February 2020. However, production was halted with the advent of the coronavirus pandemic. A premiere date for the second season has not yet been set. The Morning Show debuted to mostly lukewarm reviews. Overall, critics compared the series unfavorably to similar shows produced by Aaron Sorkin (The Newsroom, Sports Night). The series was nominated for several awards in 2020, including Golden Globe Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Critics' Choice Television Awards.
