Power Book II: Ghost picks up shortly after the earth-shattering events of Power as Tariq St. Patrick grapples with a new world order: his father dead and his mother, Tasha, facing charges for the murder her son committed. Not to mention the academic rigors of the Ivy League university Tariq is attending to earn his inheritance. The series follows the trials and tribulations facing Tariq has he attempts to forge a new life for himself. It won't be easy for him to shake off the consequences of his family's misdeeds, however. He'll want to distance himself as much as possible, but the pull of family is very strong. The series is set almost immediately after the events that concluded the original parent series. It was given a straight to series order after the announcement that Mary J. Blige would star in the spin off. Rapper Method Man also stars. The series debuted to lukewarm reviews from both critics and audiences. While some critics and viewers contend that fans of Power will also like the spin off, others say that the new series is boring and often unintentionally funny. There may also be some confusion for viewers because of the title, which makes it seem as if the series is a sequel to a series called "Power Book." The spin off series debuted on Starz in September 2020. Ratings for the series premiere were much lower than those of the peak rating of Power. Ratings for the spin off were also lower than the diminished ratings of Power in its final season.
