Played by Nigel Hawthorne, eminent surgeon Edgar Pascoe has all the arrogance of a man at the top, but not without his shortcomings. His marriage is failing and he is under investigation by the General Medical Council following the death of a patient. On a political visit to China, Edgar's eyes are opened to some deeply unethical medical practices and he is forced to face his own conscience.
