Losers is a captivating and inspiring docuseries from Makeshift Productions that tells the stories of athletes who faced incredible setbacks and defeats in their careers. Rather than focusing on the victories and triumphs, Losers explores the lessons that can be learned from losing and the ways in which it can shape and define us.

Over eight episodes, Losers introduces viewers to a range of athletes from different sports and backgrounds, each with their own unique story of defeat and redemption. From Surya Bonaly, the French figure skater known for her daring and unconventional moves, to Michael Bentt, the former heavyweight boxing champion who suffered a devastating defeat in the ring, these athletes' journeys are both heartbreaking and inspiring.

One of the most compelling aspects of Losers is the way in which it emphasizes the emotional toll that losing can take on athletes. We see how these athletes struggle with feelings of disappointment, shame, and inadequacy, and how they often have to fight through these emotions in order to continue pursuing their dreams. At the same time, Losers also highlights the resilience and determination that can be found in the face of defeat, and how athletes can use their setbacks as a source of motivation to keep pushing forward.

Throughout the series, Losers also delves into some of the more systemic issues that can contribute to athletes' failures. We see how unfair judging and scoring can have a profound impact on athletes' confidence and ability to succeed, as in the case of Surya Bonaly, who faced discrimination from the skating establishment due to her race and style. We also see how injuries and physical limitations can be just as devastating to athletes as any defeat in competition, as in the case of former high jumper Dick Fosbury, who had to overcome a debilitating spinal condition in order to continue competing.

But while Losers does not shy away from the difficulties and challenges that athletes face, it also celebrates the incredible accomplishments that can arise from failing. We see athletes like Jean van de Velde, the French golfer who famously choked in the final round of the 1999 British Open, who have been able to turn their defeats into sources of humor and self-awareness. We see athletes like former Canadian ice hockey player Angela James, who have used their setbacks as opportunities to become advocates for change and innovation in their sports.

Through it all, Losers is a powerful reminder of the universality of the human experience, and of our capacity to learn from our failures and create something truly meaningful out of them. By shining a light on some of the most extraordinary athletes and their stories of overcoming defeat, Losers inspires us to persevere in our own struggles, and to find hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
