Mel & Macca, a couple from Park Orchards, Victoria, have lived in their home for 20 years. They raised their children in the home and have many memories there, but now that their children have grown up and moved out, they're finding that the home no longer meets their needs. Mel wants to renovate the property and update it to suit their current lifestyle, while Macca wants to sell and move to a smaller, low-maintenance property.
Mel has a long list of renovations she wants to undertake, including updating the kitchen, adding an outdoor entertaining area, and converting an unused space into a home office. She thinks that with the right renovations, the home can be transformed into their dream home and they can stay there for many more years.
However, Macca is concerned about the cost of the renovations and the ongoing maintenance that will be required. He thinks that they'll be better off selling the property and buying a smaller, low-maintenance home that better suits their current lifestyle.
The Love It or List It Australia team, comprising of host Andrew Winter and designer Neale Whitaker, visit Mel & Macca to assess their home and determine whether it's possible to renovate it to meet their needs or whether it's time to sell and move on.
Neale takes on the challenge of designing a renovation plan for the property, with the aim of modernising it and creating a more functional space for the couple. He thinks that with clever design and some strategic renovations, the home can be transformed into their dream property.
Meanwhile, Andrew takes the couple on a house-hunting mission to find a suitable property that meets their current needs and lifestyle requirements. He shows them a range of properties in the area, including smaller homes and ones that are fully renovated, to give them an idea of what's available on the market.
Over the course of the episode, Mel and Macca are forced to weigh up the pros and cons of renovating versus selling and moving on. They're faced with some tough decisions, particularly when it comes to the cost of the renovations and the ongoing maintenance that will be required.
In the end, it's up to Mel and Macca to decide whether they love their current home enough to invest in a renovation or whether it's time to list it and move on to a new chapter in their lives.
