Making Good is a heartwarming series that shines a light on people who are doing good in the world. Each episode follows a different person as they embark on a project aimed at making the world a better place. Season 2 episode 9, titled "Icing Smiles," focuses on a nonprofit organization that brings joy to children battling serious illnesses.

The episode begins with a look at Icing Smiles, a charity that provides custom birthday cakes to children who would otherwise miss out on the joy of a birthday celebration due to their illnesses. The organization is run by volunteers who donate their baking and decorating skills to create beautiful, personalized cakes for each child. The episode follows several volunteers as they make their way to the homes of children who are celebrating their birthdays.

First, we meet Jackie, a volunteer baker who is creating a cake for a young girl named Lily. Lily has cerebral palsy and is extremely excited about her Frozen-themed birthday cake. Jackie carefully constructs the cake, layer by layer, and then decorates it with blue and white frosting. She adds sparkly snowflakes and a fondant Elsa figurine to the top of the cake. When Jackie arrives at Lily's home with the cake, the little girl is thrilled. She can't stop staring at the cake and exclaims, "It's beautiful!"

Next, we meet Heather, another volunteer baker who is making a cake for a boy named Jameson. Jameson is battling leukemia and is celebrating his fifth birthday. Heather creates a cake shaped like a fire truck, complete with flashing lights and a ladder made from licorice. When she delivers the cake to Jameson, he is overjoyed. He immediately starts playing with the fire truck, making siren noises and pretending to put out fires.

The final volunteer we meet is Emily, a decorator who is creating a cake for a girl named Sophia. Sophia has a rare genetic disorder called Kabuki syndrome, and her parents say that she has been looking forward to her birthday for months. Emily creates a beautiful butterfly-themed cake, with a rainbow of colors and lots of delicate decorations. When Sophia sees the cake, she is ecstatic. She claps her hands and says, "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Throughout the episode, we also hear from parents who have received cakes from Icing Smiles in the past. They talk about how much the cakes meant to their children and how the organization provided a much-needed bright spot during a difficult time. One mother explains that her daughter was in the hospital for her birthday and was feeling down, but the cake from Icing Smiles made her day. "It just brought so much joy to her," the mother says.

The episode ends with a montage of happy children enjoying their cakes. We see Lily singing "Let It Go" while holding her Elsa cake topper, Jameson pretending to drive his fire truck cake around the house, and Sophia admiring her butterfly cake. The volunteers pack up their supplies and head home, exhausted but grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in these children's lives.

"Icing Smiles" is a heartwarming episode that showcases the power of volunteerism and the impact that a birthday cake can have on a child's life. It is a reminder that small gestures of kindness can make a big difference, and that there are always people out there who are willing to give of themselves to help others.
