In Megalo Box season 1 episode 2, titled "The Man Only Dies Once," we find our protagonist, Junk Dog, still determined to take on the champion of Megalonia despite his initial defeat. However, his coach, Gansaku Nanbu, has other plans for him and wants to protect him from the dangerous world of Megalo Boxing.

In order to raise the funds needed for their ticket to Megalonia, Junk Dog and Nanbu enter an underground fight club where they encounter a mysterious fighter known only as "The Man with the Scar." This encounter proves to be a turning point for Junk Dog as he is forced to confront his limitations and decide what he truly wants out of Megalo Boxing.

Throughout the episode, we see glimpses of Junk Dog's backstory, including his squalid living conditions and the way he was initially introduced to Megalo Boxing by Nanbu. We also get a deeper look into the corrupt world of Megalo Boxing, with promoters and officials manipulating fights for their own gain.

Meanwhile, we are introduced to other key characters such as Sachio, a young boy who idolizes Junk Dog and helps him with his training, and Yukiko Shirato, the CEO of Shirato Group, who is responsible for putting on the Megalonia tournament.

As the episode progresses, tensions rise between Junk Dog and Nanbu as they struggle to reconcile their differing goals for the sport. Junk Dog's desire for glory and redemption clashes with Nanbu's desire for safety and stability.

Overall, "The Man Only Dies Once" sets the stage for the rest of the series by establishing the key players and conflicts at play. It also explores the themes of ambition, loyalty, and integrity in a world where the line between success and corruption is often blurred.
