Suraj: The Rising Star is 2013 Japanese and Indian jointly created animation series which first aired on COLORS. The show was created by TMS Entertainment, COLORS, KODANSHA Inc. and DQ. The series is notable for strengthening Indo-Japanese ties. The series tells the story of a young sixteen year old from Mumbai, Suraj, who seeks to become the world's greatest cricket player. In India, cricket is not just a sport but something more akin to a religion and young Suraj's indomitable will makes him wish to become the idol his people seek and deserve. It is a adaptation of the Japanese anime series Kyojin no Hoshi, though that series focused on Baseball rather than cricket.
