Ep 3. Captain Obvious

Ray Shoesmith (Scott Ryan) is a man with many faces: hitman, father, ex-husband, and friend. In episode 3 of Mr Inbetween, titled "Captain Obvious," Ray finds himself struggling to keep up with all his different roles while dealing with a new job and unexpected family obligations.

The episode picks up with Ray meeting with his latest client, a wealthy businessman named Freddy (Damon Harriman). Meanwhile, Ray is also dealing with his personal life. His daughter, Brittany (Chika Yasumura), is going through some teenage rebellion and is skipping school. Ray is trying to be a good father and is struggling to connect with her in a meaningful way. He also has to deal with his ex-wife's new boyfriend, Bruce (Nicholas Cassim), who is starting to encroach on Ray's territory.

One of the standout moments in this episode is Ray's interactions with his friend, Gary (Justin Rosniak). Gary is a lovable slacker who spends his days getting high and coming up with ridiculous schemes. In "Captain Obvious," Gary decides he wants to become a superhero, and Ray reluctantly agrees to help him. The resulting scenes are both hilarious and poignant, highlighting the bond between Ray and Gary and the desperation that drives Gary's need for heroism.

Overall, "Captain Obvious" is another strong episode of Mr Inbetween that showcases the series' unique blend of humor, warmth, and violence. The episode balances different storylines and tones with impressive skill, and the result is a satisfying and entertaining installment in Ray's ongoing story.
