Nilus the Sandman was an animated children's series that aired on Toonscape from 1996 to 1998. The show was produced by Tolifilm Canada and featured the voice talents of Long John Baldry, Don Francks, and Sean Amsing. The premise of the show was centered around a being known as the Sandman, who visited children in their dreams to bring them goodnight messages and pleasant dreams.

The show followed the adventures of Nilus, the newest member of the Sandman's team. He was a mischievous young sand fairy who was eager to learn about the world of dreams and to master the art of sand-slinging. The Sandman acted as a mentor to Nilus, teaching him the importance of good dreams and how to stop the mischievous Nightmares from invading children's dreams and causing chaos.

Each episode of Nilus the Sandman followed a similar structure, with the Sandman sending Nilus on a mission to help a child who was experiencing bad dreams. The show often dealt with relatable problems for children, such as fear of the dark or being scared of monsters under the bed. Nilus would use his sand-slinging magic to vanquish the Nightmares and restore order to the child's dream world.

One of the unique aspects of the show was its use of music. Long John Baldry, who voiced the Sandman, was a blues musician who lent his expertise to the series. Music was a prominent feature of the show, with original songs and musical numbers throughout each episode. The show also featured guest appearances by other musicians, including jazz legend Oscar Peterson.

In addition to its entertaining storylines and catchy music, Nilus the Sandman was praised for its educational value. The show used the power of storytelling to teach children important lessons about facing their fears, using their imagination, and the importance of positivity. The Sandman's messages were always positive and empowering, encouraging children to have faith in themselves and their own abilities.

The animation style of Nilus the Sandman was reminiscent of classic Disney films, with vibrant colors and whimsical character designs. The dream world was particularly imaginative, with dragons, unicorns, and other fantastical creatures appearing regularly in the show. The animation was done by Lacewood Productions, a Canadian animation studio known for their work on popular shows such as The Raccoons and Beetlejuice.

Nilus the Sandman was a beloved series among children during its original run. It was praised for its positive messages, entertaining storylines, and memorable characters. Though it has been over 20 years since the show first aired, it remains a favorite among those who grew up with it. Fans of the show fondly remember the catchy theme song, the charming animation, and the heartwarming messages of the Sandman.

Nilus the Sandman is a series that is currently running and has 2 seasons (26 episodes). The series first aired on October 5, 1996.
