On Christmas Eve during World War I; caked in mud and nearly frozen, Germans and Brits climbed out of their respective trenches, set aside their guns, and played a match of soccer. While the war continued, soldiers on both sides found themselves unable to fire across the pitch, as football forged a secret truce.
