In the second episode of season 2 of the British comedy series Staged, titled "Long Time, No See," we catch up with the two lead actors, David Tennant and Michael Sheen, as they continue to rehearse for their upcoming play while navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The episode opens with David and Michael chatting over a video call, with David asking Michael about his journey back to the UK from his family’s home in Wales. We learn that Michael has been spending time away from London during the pandemic, and the two actors are clearly happy to be reunited, even if it is only virtually.

As they get started on their rehearsal, the pair struggles to get back into the flow of things after so much time apart. They stumble over their lines, interrupt each other, and generally struggle to focus. David attempts to get things back on track, but both actors seem to be struggling with the monotony of rehearsing remotely.

In an attempt to break up the monotony, David proposes that they bring in a special guest to help liven things up: their old friend and collaborator Simon Evans. Simon, who is also the director of their upcoming play, joins them via video call and immediately injects some energy and humor into the proceedings.

Despite their initial excitement at Simon’s appearance, the rehearsal quickly devolves into chaos as the trio starts talking over each other and making jokes. Simon attempts to get them back on track by offering some critiques of their performances, but they are clearly more interested in goofing around and enjoying each other’s company.

As the rehearsal continues, Simon grows increasingly exasperated with the two actors, who seem more interested in making jokes than taking the work seriously. He eventually loses his temper and hangs up on them, leaving David and Michael alone to contemplate their behavior.

Realizing that they need to get back to work if they are going to put on a successful play, David and Michael try to refocus their energy. They return to their roles and begin running through the script, but they still struggle to find their rhythm.

It isn’t until they start discussing the characters they are playing that they really begin to connect with the material. They share their own personal experiences and insights, and it becomes clear that they are both deeply committed to the work they are doing.

As the episode comes to a close, we see the two actors in a more contemplative mood, reflecting on the challenges they have faced over the past several months. Despite the difficulties of rehearsing remotely and dealing with the pandemic, they are both clearly excited about the prospect of being back onstage together.

Overall, "Long Time, No See" is a witty and heartfelt exploration of the challenges of creativity and collaboration in the time of COVID-19. With its clever writing, sharp humor, and poignant performances, it continues to be a highlight of the British comedy scene.
