His fighting nature continues, and he recovers from this cancer, only to find that some cancer can, in his words "be cured or endured." He writes books that address the intersection between medicine and religion, and uses the BBC to spread his words of hope and science to millions.

He becomes a war-time vicar with the commencement of World War II, and provides solace through his words and films.
