Jimmy O'Conner lives in South Brooklyn and has lost his father, who is a firefighter. He now considers his dad's fellow firemen to be family, though the person he is closest to is Tommy, a mob boss who owns the gym that employs Tommy. Tommy is a good guy as mobsters go, and he wants Jimmy to enjoy his life. He encourages him to pursue acting, which Jimmy loves, and he ends up getting a part in a play alongside a woman he develops a crush on. Unfortunately, he walks in on a mob hit and finds himself in trouble...
