Dad Savage, released in 1998, is a British crime drama directed by British director Betsan Morris Evans. The movie has an ensemble cast comprising of Patrick Stewart, Kevin McKidd, Helen McCrory, Joe McFadden, Marc Warren, and Kerry Fox. The plot revolves around a family of criminals who live together in a remote, rural area in England. The patriarch of the family is Dad Savage, played by Patrick Stewart. He is a former boxer who has turned to a life of crime and is serving a life sentence in prison for murder. His son, Sav (Kevin McKidd), takes care of the family's farm and is also involved in illegal activities. The rest of the family members include his brother, Steve (Marc Warren), his sister, Josie (Helen McCrory), and her boyfriend, Hector (Joe McFadden).

The story begins when Sav's girlfriend, Beth (Kerry Fox), is kidnapped by a rival gang led by a man named Nutty (Tom Georgeson). Nutty demands a ransom from Sav, which he cannot afford to pay. In desperation, Sav turns to his father, Dad Savage, for help. Dad Savage agrees to help, but on the condition that Sav gives up his criminal ways and leads a straight life once Beth is released.

The rest of the movie follows the events that unfold as Sav and his family try to get Beth back from Nutty's gang. They are hindered by the police, who are also looking for Nutty and his gang, and by the family's own internal dynamics. As the family's past catches up with them, they have to confront difficult choices and confront their own demons.

The performances in the movie are excellent, particularly by Patrick Stewart and Kevin McKidd. Stewart is menacing and authoritative as Dad Savage, and McKidd is convincing as the conflicted son who wants to break free from his criminal past. The rest of the cast also puts in strong performances, particularly Helen McCrory as Josie.

The movie has a gritty, realistic feel to it, with a somber tone throughout. The rural setting of the movie adds to the sense of isolation and desperation felt by the characters. The movie's themes include family, loyalty, and the consequences of one's actions.

Overall, Dad Savage is a well-made crime drama that is worth watching for its strong performances and tense plot. While the movie may not be for everyone due to its bleak tone and subject matter, it is a worthwhile watch for fans of the genre.
