Leftenan Adnan is a Malaysian film that was released in the year 2000. Directed by Aziz M. Osman, the film is a biopic on the life of Lieutenant Adnan Saidi- a hero of the Malayan army. Hairie Othman plays the role of the titular character, Lieutenant Adnan Saidi. As a young man from a humble background, Adnan joins the British army at the outbreak of World War II. On his return to Malaya after the war, he enrols in the newly-formed Malay Regiment. Adnan sees this as an opportunity to serve his country and help his fellow countrymen.

Through flashbacks, the movie takes us on a journey of Lieutenant Adnan's life. We see how his love for his country and his people leads him to become a courageous soldier. Adnan is shown leading his men with valour and determination as they fight the Japanese armed forces during the Battle of Pasir Panjang in Singapore.

The film also brings to light the challenges the Malay Regiment had to endure- from being regarded as second-class soldiers to facing racial discrimination from the British officers. Adnan, who is a keen observer and an intelligent soldier, is not afraid to speak up against the injustice and discrimination towards his fellow Malay soldiers.

The movie also shows the personal side of Adnan. Despite the odds, he falls in love with a nurse- Salina (played by Umie Aida). The chemistry between Hairie Othman and Umie Aida is natural, and they do justice to their roles as a couple in love. Salina admires Adnan's dedication to his country and his people and supports him throughout his struggles.

Faizal Hussein plays the role of Corporal Hassan, Adnan's trusted comrade in arms. Corporal Hassan provides the much-needed comic relief in the serious and intense moments of the film. His ability to lighten the mood with his jokes and antics while also being a professional soldier is admirable.

The film successfully captures the emotional drama that was a part of the Malayan army's fight for independence. The audience feels the tension and suspense as a group of young soldiers face impossible odds against a stronger and more experienced enemy.

The music of Leftenan Adnan has also received critical acclaim. The soundtrack, composed by M. Nasir, is haunting and moving. The soulful music complements the various emotional moments in the movie.

Overall, Leftenan Adnan is a powerful and evocative film that tells the true story of a proud and brave soldier who gave his life in the fight for his country's independence. The movie highlights the struggles of a nation and the triumph of hope and determination. It is a must-watch for anyone interested in Malaysian history, war films, or biopics.
