Up is a tale about an old man named Carl, who has lost his sense of adventure and finds him looking for ways to hold on to what he thinks, is all he has left. It is a classic love story of a man who losses the love of his life and struggles to figure out how to live without her. Carl, is somewhat forced into an adventure that he feels is necessary, in a desperate attempt to hold onto a home he had shared with his wife Ellie. To fulfill a promise he had made to her when they were children he attaches hundreds of balloons to the house and sets out in search of Paradise Falls. He does, however, unknowingly pick up a passenger. Russell, a little neighborhood boy who is trying to earn a badge ends up stranded on his front porch. Trying to return Russell home, the young wilderness explorer and Carl end up caught in a storm that sweeps them away. Through some clever navigation young Russell gets them safely to Paradise Falls. But, they are on the wrong side of island. Carl intends to remedy that and sets out to the right side of island with Russell and house in tow.
Along the way he meets a band of interesting and entertaining animals. A bird, who Russell named Kevin, a talking dog name Doug and the childhood hero who was responsible for bringing Carl and his love Ellie together when they were kids. In this journey he's forced to choose between what was important to him before and what he finds is important to him now.
The movie is done in 3-D computer animation, using vibrant colors and state of the art graphics. With a PG rating it is appropriate for almost all ages.
