"47 Ronin" is a fictionalized account of the forty-seven ronin from Japanese history. In the 18th-century, Naganori Asano, a daimyo (feudal lord), had to commit seppuku (ritual suicide). Asano committed seppuku due to his failed attempt to murder a court official named Yoshinaka Kira. The forty-seven samurai serving under Asano became ronin, or masterless samurai, after his death. Roughly two years later, the forty-seven ronin avenged him by killing Kira. They committed seppuku afterwards. In the movie "47 Ronin," Kai (Keanu Reeves), who's an outcast due to being biracial, joins a group of ronin. The ronin want to get revenge for the killing of their master and their own banishment. Their master was killed by the treacherous Lord Kira (Tadanobu Asano). He also banished the ronin. Kuranosuke Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada) leads the ronin on the challenging journey of revenge. Bringing honor back to their land is another part of their journey. "47 Ronin" adds fantasy to a historical event. The ronin must face fantasy elements such as shapeshifting, witches, and other dangerous creatures. "47 Ronin" was directed by Carl Erik Rinsch. It was written by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amin. The movie's theatrical release date was pushed back several times.
