A Christmas Prince is a delightful romantic comedy from 2017, directed by Alex Zamm, starring Rose McIver, Ben Lamb, and Alice Krige. The movie follows the story of Amber, a young aspiring journalist who travels to the fictional European country of Aldovia to report on the much-awaited coronation of the country's young prince, Richard.

As soon as Amber arrives in Aldovia, she finds herself in a whirlwind of events that eventually lead to her posing as the tutor to the young princess Emily, the younger sister of Prince Richard. However, Amber's real motive for being in Aldovia is to uncover a juicy story about the prince's imminent coronation. A few accidental encounters with the handsome prince, however, start to change her perspective on the monarchy and her real intentions for being in Aldovia.

As she starts to spend more time with Prince Richard and the Royal family, Amber begins to discover some of the secrets about the prince's past which will throw Aldovia into the hands of his arrogant cousin, Simon. Alongside Amber, the prince too has to deal with the pressures of being the next ruler of Aldovia and closure of his father's unwarranted death. How Amber and Prince Richard solve the mystery of the king's death as Simon tries to use Richard's absence to his advantage forms the crux of the story.

Rose McIver plays Amber, the young journalist with an innate ability to sniff out a good story. McIver's performance is sincere and relatable, and she does an excellent job of portraying the character's transformation from a hard-hitting reporter to a woman who finds herself falling in love with the prince she was supposed to expose.

Ben Lamb, who plays Prince Richard, manages to add the perfect balance of charm, poise, and vulnerability to the character. Lamb impressively portrays the demanding nature of his character but also allows us glimpses of the surprising quirks hidden underneath the aloof exterior.

Alice Krige, who plays Queen Helena, the mother of Prince Richard and Princess Emily, adds more depth to the movie with her excellent screen presence. The queen is elegant, poised, and in charge, and Krige brings out all of these attributes of the character with conviction.

Apart from the lead characters, the supporting cast also does an admirable job. Tahirah Sharif plays Princess Emily, and her sweet portrayal effectively highlights the innocence and spirit of the character. Theo Devaney plays Simon, Prince Richard's scheming cousin, and he does an excellent job of getting under the viewer's skin with his malicious intentions.

The production quality and settings are impressive, and the movie manages to capture the spirit of Christmas beautifully. Filmed in real-life locations in Romania, the movie effectively captures the charm of a small-town in winter, the festive decorations, and the snowy landscapes. The movie also uses some breathtaking drone shots that add some magnificent landscapes around Aldovia.

Overall, A Christmas Prince is an entertaining movie that has its heart in the right place. The movie tugs on the heartstrings by integrating the themes of love, family, and friendship along with the mystery surrounding the king's death. The chemistry between the lead characters, the Christmas-themed production quality, and the storyline make it an excellent choice for a cozy night in.
