A/K/A Tommy Chong is the movie following the story of his arrest for selling water pipes over the internet. This in-depth depiction began by the Presidential administration as an operation ironically called ‘Operation Pipe Dreams’ chronicles the story of Tommy’s son Paris and his manufacture and sale of water pipes also commonly called ‘bongs’. In the documentary the viewer will hear the tale of entrapment that resulted in a 9 month imprisonment of the American Pop culture icon. The film maker, Josh Gilbert takes the opportunity to show the effects that this imprisonment had upon the Chong family and their at times hilarious outlook on the entire ordeal. Interviews with Shelby Chong,Cheech Marin, Jay Leno, Bill Maher and many others who stand in outspoken support for in their opinion his wrongful arrest. Those cameos will accompany those jail house talks with Tommy himself giving those watching a closer look at the prosecutions seemingly vendetta that took thousands of dollars and a multitude of man hours to complete. Federal Prosecutor Mary Beth Buchanan who was placed into office by President Bush’s administration went to great lengths to formulate a case in her words: “conspiracy to manufacture and distribute drug paraphernalia”. Through the company Pipe Dreams that was owned by his son was the outlet for that illegal activity to take place. This documentary will give the viewer some delightful interviews with Tommy in his orange jumpsuit showing his charismatic persona and at times hilarious outlook on the entire situation of his incarceration and the raid upon his home. As the war on drugs is shown in the footage it brings the viewer a more intimate look at the possibly ill-fated operation. As the raid on Tommy’s California home was occurring similar raids happened across the country resulting in around 55 other arrests while the imprisonment of Tommy Chong became the pinnacle of the entire operation.
