Always Be My Maybe is a heartwarming romantic comedy film that was released on Netflix in 2019. It is directed by Nahnatchka Khan and stars Ali Wong and Randall Park in the lead roles. The movie also features James Saito, Daniel Dae Kim, Keanu Reeves, and Charlyne Yi in supporting roles. The movie revolves around two childhood friends, Sasha Tran (Ali Wong) and Marcus Kim (Randall Park), who grew up together in San Francisco. They were inseparable until a one-night stand caused a rift in their friendship, and they lost touch for fifteen years. Sasha moved to Los Angeles and became a celebrity chef, while Marcus stayed in San Francisco and continued to live with his father and work as a handyman.

When Sasha returns to San Francisco to open a new restaurant, she runs into Marcus, who is still nursing his broken heart. The awkwardness between them is palpable, but they eventually reconnect and realize that their feelings for each other never went away. However, they both have to come to terms with their past and figure out if they are ready to take a chance on each other again.

One of the strengths of the movie is the chemistry between Ali Wong and Randall Park. They have a natural rapport on screen, and their banter and comedic timing are impressive. Ali Wong is perfect as the successful and confident Sasha, while Randall Park brings a vulnerability to Marcus's character that makes him easy to root for.

The movie also tackles some important themes, such as cultural identity and generational differences. Sasha's parents are immigrants from China and have different expectations for their daughter than she has for herself. Marcus's father, on the other hand, struggles to connect with his son and accept his dreams. These issues are handled with sensitivity and humor, and they add depth to the characters and their relationships.

The supporting cast is also noteworthy. James Saito is excellent as Harry, Sasha's father, and his scenes with Ali Wong have some of the most emotional moments in the movie. Keanu Reeves, in a small but memorable role, plays a fictional version of himself and steals every scene he's in. The soundtrack, featuring songs by Mariah Carey and Nelly, among others, is also a highlight.

Always Be My Maybe is a delightful romantic comedy with a lot of heart. It is not perfect, and some of the plot points are predictable, but the movie's charm and humor make up for it. It is a great date-night movie or a feel-good film to watch with friends. Overall, it is a refreshing take on the genre, and it is definitely worth checking out.
