The story follows two brothers called Josh and Max (played by Joshua Miller and Edan Gross) who invent a robo-garbage can. The call the robot Newman and wind up winning the science fair. Newman's memory chips somehow get invaded by the soul of the boys' deceased father who was a computer genius himself. While the boys always believed that their father had committed suicide, it turns out he was killed in an unfortunate accident. He had been conducting a secret experiment that went horribly and fatally wrong. But no one was able to tell that happened since it was all done in secret. The boys enjoy their time with Newman - who actually becomes a substitute father for the boys. They play Frisbee, hang out and have lots of fun, just like old times. Even their mother gets into the action when she dances around with the Newman. She is engaged to be married to a magazine writer. At first she is a little skeptical, but the robot manages to display some of her former husband's traits which endears him to her more. The boys must confront their nemesis, Dwayne Kotzwinkle. He had won a science fair because his father ran a computer store. In addition, watching how Newman interacts with the boys make him highly suspect to those who see their activities. Also on their tale is a nosy television anchorwoman who is desperate to get the full story on Newman. People suspect that there is far more about the robot than meets the eye. Some people manage to get glimpses of the robot and all that he is capable of. In addition, there are some ill-intentioned electronics business tycoons hot on their track.
