A dedicated and workaholic mathematics professor, Jai Verma (Siddharth Malhotra) aspires to fulfil his dreams in London, but life takes a turn when his childhood friend and long time girlfriend, Diya Kapoor (Katrina Kaif) proposes him for marriage. As the story unfolds, Jai finds himself in a dilemma between work and family. Meanwhile, complexities emerge when Diya and Jai have an argument. Jai consumes alcohol and falls asleep only to wake up and find himself trapped, as he travels to diverse portions of his life back and forth. Jai tries to control his life by solving the equation with math, but fails to find a rigid answer. As the plot heightens, Jai continues to travel back and forth in time unintentionally, while discovering his past, present and future with his family and work.
