Battle Field America was written by Marques Houston and Chris Stokes (who also directed the movie). Battle Starring Gary Sturgis ( Eric Smith Sr.), Tristen Carter (Eric Smith Jr.), Marques Houston (Sean Lewis), Kida Burns (Hank Adams), Zach Balandres (Chu Ling), Cameron Bicondova (Prissy), Edward Mandell (Marv), Kyle Brooks (Roger), David Michie (Glen Downing), Lynn Whitfield (Marcia Parker) and Mekia Cox (Sarah Miller). Set in Long Beach California the movie is about Sean Lewis, a young business executive, who is given a community service sentence after being arrested for a DUI. He has to work in this community center, which he hates until he meets the director of the community center, Sarah (Cox). He is hoping for a laid-back job but Sarah sentences him to helping a bunch of misfit boys learn to dance. Unfortunately, they have no real dance talent, but have whole lot of attitude and this is a difficult adjustment for Lewis. Their lack of dance movies and his lack of motivation to teach them, culminates in his hiring a professional dance instructor to help the boys learn to dance. This not only helps the boys but it also helped relieve Lewis of some of the burden of taking care of the boys so he can focus more on wooing Sarah (the director of the community center). However, as the group is training progresses Lewis begins to grow close to the boys and learns that all the boys really needed was a little encouragement and confidence to be themselves. Lewis starts to truly take an interest in the kids, which causes him to reflect on himself also, and he learns more about himself than he ever thought. With Lewis’ charismatic encouragement and the dance instructor’s guidance, the boys soon begin to gain confidence in themselves and in each other. Their newfound confidence encourages them to compete in Battlefield America, a local dance competition that they have always lost. The group including Lewis continues to strive and practice hoping for a win. The boys decide to call themselves the “Bad Boys” and end up beating their archrivals “The Bang Squad” to win the competition.
