"Beach Blanket Bingo" is the story of a group of California surfer friends who get caught between singer Sugar Kane and the villainous motorcycle gang the Rat Pack. The friends are torn between the beauty, the bikers, skydivers, and surfing. Beginning at the beach with Frankie and Dee Dee looking for a song on their radio, the title song begins to play. During the opening credits a blimp advertising Sugar Kane's newest album flies overhead followed by an airplane. When a skydiver drops from the plane and lands in the ocean, the surfers grab their boards and rescue her. The skydiver, doubling for Sugar, is an instructor from a nearby skydiving school named Bonnie who was hired as Sugar's double by the singer's agent Bullets. As the smoke clears, Eric von Zipper and his motorcycle gang ride onto the beach to rescue Eric's crush Sugar from the surfers. Watching Bonnie jump from the plane gives Frankie and Dee Dee the idea to try skydiving, and the gang, except Bonehead, drive to a skydiving school run by an acerbic man named Big Drop. With the gang gone, Bonehead surfs alone and almost drowns, and is rescued by the beautiful mermaid Lorelei. Found semi-conscious on the beach by the singer, Bullets sees a publicity opportunity and takes pictures of the couple, promoting Sugar as a hero. Seeing the headline, "Skydiving Singer Saves Surfer," sends Zipper on a quest to take Sugar from Frankie and the gang. That night at Sugar's party, Bonehead hits the waves again to find Lorelei. Filled with jealous girlfriends, angry skydivers, a mermaid love story, singing, dancing, and bikers, "Beach Blanket Bingo" was one of a number of beach movies helmed by veteran TV director William Asher. "Beach Blanket Bingo" stars Frankie Avalon as Frankie, Annette Funicello as Dee Dee, Deborah Walley as Bonnie, Harvey Lemeck as Eric von Zipper, Jody McCrea as Bonehead, Marta Kristen as Lorelei, Linda Evans as Sugar Kane, Don Rickles as Big Drop, and Paul Lynde as Bullets.
