Bedknobs and Broomsticks is a musical fantasy-comedy. The story takes place in England when the country is at war. In an effort to keep the children safe, the three Rawlins siblings are sent to live with an older woman named Eglantine Price. The children, who are named Carrie, Paul and Charlie, discover that Miss Price is learning witchcraft through a correspondence course. To their astonishment, the lessons she takes actually work. Just when Miss Price is about to complete her course, she receives a letter stating the school will no longer be in operation. The closure of the school greatly distresses Miss Price who has been waiting for the final spell. With encouragement from the children she decides to find the teacher and obtain the spell she needs. Miss Price and the children create their own mode of transportation by turning an ordinary brass bed into a flying machine. Miss Price casts a spell on the bed so when the top knob is turned it takes them to where they want to go. They set their destination to the address where the correspondence came from. When they arrive, they meet the person who put the course together. It turns out the teacher of the witchcraft course is actually a man who possesses no magic abilities at all. He created the course as a way of scamming people out of their money. He is amazed to learn the lessons he sent to Miss Price actually allowed her to cast magic spells. It turns out the lessons the man was sending to her actually came from an old book. The final lesson Miss Price is looking for is missing from the copy of the book he has, so they all go in search of another book. The book itself contains a story about a magical wizard and an island of talking animals, which is added to the movie in animated sequences.
