Blue Iguana is a 2018 British-American crime-comedy movie directed by Hadi Hajaig. The film stars Sam Rockwell as ex-con Eddie and Ben Schwartz as his best friend Paul, who both want to lead a regular life away from crime. However, they are dragged into a dangerous heist when they meet an alluring lawyer, Katherine Rookwood (played by Phoebe Fox).

The movie takes place in London, where the two lifelong friends are working in a diner for a living. They are trying to stay out of trouble and using their past experiences as criminals to survive the everyday struggles of life, such as paying rent and buying food. But their mundane lives change when they meet their new boss, Katherine Rookwood, who hires them to help her business steal a valuable artifact from a wealthy man.

Eddie, the more hard-edged of the two, is hesitant to undertake any criminal job, but Paul is more willing to take the risk. The job is not easy since the artifact they need to steal is linked to an old conspiracy theory that involves the British government’s secret operations in Africa during the 1970s. Matters are further complicated when the owner of the artifact turns out to be a dangerous gangster named Deacon Bradshaw (Peter Ferdinando), who is also involved in illegal activities.

The trio must navigate through a web of lies, deceit, and betrayal to secure the artifact and complete their mission. Along the way, they cross paths with corrupt police detectives, hired hitmen, and other unsavory characters in their quest to complete the heist.

Eddie and Paul's friendship is also tested as the job progresses. Paul has romantic feelings for Katherine, putting a strain on their relationship since Eddie does not trust Katherine and suspects she is hiding something. As the stakes get higher, the trio becomes increasingly suspicious of each other, leading to a dramatic final showdown.

The movie's script is a combination of black comedy, action, and thriller elements that are reminiscent of classic heist movies. It is characterized by witty dialogue, suspenseful scenes, and quirky characters. The film’s main strengths are the performances of the main cast who are all perfect for their respective roles.

Sam Rockwell is fantastic as Eddie, the cynical ex-con who is trying to avoid going back to prison. He imbues his character with a mix of menace and humor, making him both intimidating and likable at the same time. Ben Schwartz plays Paul, the more naive of the duo, with an infectious energy that lures the audience in. Phoebe Fox's Katherine is suitably mysterious and alluring but also conveys a sense of danger and cunning.

Despite its small budget and limited release, Blue Iguana is an entertaining movie that will satisfy fans of crime comedies. The film has a retro feel to it, with a '70s-inspired soundtrack and a prevalent use of dark humor. It is also visually pleasing, with vibrant cinematography that captures the grittiness of London’s streets.

In conclusion, Blue Iguana is a thrilling and humorous movie that offers a fresh take on the heist genre. It showcases an excellent cast, creative direction, and a well-written script—all the essential ingredients for a satisfying cinematic experience.

Blue Iguana is a 2018 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6 and a MetaScore of 30.
