Boomerang! is a 1947 thriller directed by Elia Kazan and stars Dana Andrews, Jane Wyatt, and Lee J. Cobb. The movie, based on a true story, is set in a small Connecticut town and revolves around a murder investigation. The movie opens with the murder of a beloved local priest, Father Lambert. The crime scene is discovered by a group of children who are playing near the river. The police quickly launch an investigation, but they are under pressure from the public, who demand swift justice.

The investigation rapidly becomes complex as the police are unable to pin down a suspect. The town is thrown into a state of anxiety and confusion as the search for the perpetrator continues. In the meantime, the newspapers are abuzz with rumors and theories about the person responsible.

Enter Henry Harvey (Dana Andrews), a state attorney from Hartford. He is brought in to lead the investigation and bring the killer to justice. He starts his work with a series of interviews with the townspeople, trying to get as much information as possible. He becomes particularly interested in a mysterious drifter named John Waldron, who witnesses placed at the scene of the crime. The police hold Waldron without charge, but Harvey is not satisfied.

Harvey makes some early progress but runs afoul of the town's political machine and police department. They are unhappy with his aggressive tactics, especially when he starts to question one of their own, Sergeant White (Lee J. Cobb). Harvey's clashes with White escalate and he eventually finds himself suspended from the investigation.

Undeterred, he continues to work behind the scenes with the help of a local reporter, Ann Sinclair (Jane Wyatt). Together, they uncover some damning evidence that points towards the real killer, but they must race against time to prove it before someone else is hurt.

Boomerang! is a taut, fast-paced thriller with a satisfying conclusion. The film is notable for its documentary-style approach to storytelling, which was revolutionary for its time. It was shot on location in Stamford, Connecticut, and features a number of real-life figures from the town portrayed by the residents themselves.

Dana Andrews delivers an excellent performance as Harvey. He brings just the right mix of intelligence, wit, and toughness to the role. Jane Wyatt is also great as Ann Sinclair, offering a cool-headed counterpoint to Andrews' intensity. Lee J. Cobb is suitably gruff as the suspicious Sergeant White.

Overall, Boomerang! is a gripping film noir that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The movie is expertly directed with a great script and features strong performances from its cast. It is a classic example of the genre and a must-see for fans of thrillers and film noir.

Boomerang! is a 1947 crime movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.2.
