Splendor In The Grass is a 1961 movie directed by Elia Kazan, starring Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty. The movie takes place during the 1920s in a small town in Kansas. Natalie Wood's character, Deanie, is romantically involved with her high school sweetheart, Bud, played by Warren Beatty. The movie takes a look at teenage anxieties that young people face, with regards to making decisions about taking their relationship to the next level, physically speaking. The decision to "move forward" or not is set against the backdrop of middle American mores of the early 20th century. The film takes a very honest, behind the scenes look at how teenagers are motivated by well-meaning relations in making choices that could have life-long effects upon their lives. Indeed, the movie showcases a series of decisions that will have lasting, irrevocable effects upon the young sweethearts as they try to navigate their way through their romance and their futures after graduating high school.
