Braid is a unique and twisted psychological thriller movie, released in 2018. The movie is directed and written by Mitzi Peirone and features Madeline Brewer, Imogen Waterhouse, and Sarah Hay in lead roles. The movie is an exciting attempt at exploring the complex and dark world of the human psyche, getting lost in fantastic and surprisingly frequent plot twists.

The movie tells the story of two young women, Petula (played by Imogen Waterhouse) and Tilda (Madeline Brewer), who are on the run from the law after fleeing the scene of a drug deal. In a desperate attempt to pay their debt to the crime lord Daphne (Sarah Hay), they hatch a bizarre plan that involves robbing their former childhood friend, Lily (played by Peirone herself), who has inherited a vast fortune from her parents.

To get their hands on Lily's money, Petula and Tilda must first conquer Lily's hallucinatory world by playing an elaborate game of make-believe. Pretending to be children again, they indulge in playing different games and exploring labyrinths inside Lily's mansion. The girls become lost in the world of their own creation - but, as tension builds and their Sanity starts to unravel, the question arises, could the game become dangerous, and if so, what happens when it does?

The movie is an intense psychological thriller that plays out between the blurred lines of reality and illusion. The unique and creative plot provides twists and turns that keep the viewer deeply engaged; you're never precisely sure what is going to happen next.

The acting is superb, and Madeline Brewer, who plays the more dominant and domineering of the two main characters petula, delivers a really jaw-dropping performance. Petula is narcissistic and sociopathic, and Brewer's portrayal of the character is spot on. Her character's dynamics with the other characters also make for some shockingly memorable scenes.

Imogen Waterhouse, who plays Tilda, gives an equally impressive performance. Tilda is more of a follower, but she possesses a deep darkness that drives a lot of the story. In contrast to the flamboyant persona of Petula, Tilda appears softer but much quieter and much more emotionally complex than one initially assumes.

Sarah Hay's portrayal of Daphne is equally brilliant; she is the ice-cold villain of the film, cold and unpredictable in her actions. Her interactions with Petula and Tilda are central to the plot, and her character is both menacing and unhinged.

The movie's visuals are equally stunning, and director Mitzi Peirone is talented at producing scenes that are vibrant, perfect examples of the story's magical realism. The camera angles and use of color build a layered and psychedelic environment where we become lost in the world of the characters almost immediately.

Overall, Braid is a mind-bending movie with something new to offer. It provides a fascinating visual experience with excellent acting and an innovative storyline. It is not for the faint of heart, and the film contains frequent moments of explicit gore and psychological abuse. But for those who appreciate an intriguing storyline with an equally creative delivery, it is a must-see.

Braid is a 2019 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 22 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.3 and a MetaScore of 60.
