Butterflies Are Free is a movie that is based on Leonard Gershe's play. The film stars Goldie Hawn, Edward Albert, and Eileen Heckart. The movie is set in the 1970s in San Francisco. A blind man named Don Baker (Albert) lives with his mom (Heckart). When Don finally moves into a place by himself, he tells him mom not to visit him for two months at least. After a month passes, Jill Tanner (Hawn) moves in next door. Jill hears Don talking to his mother on the phone and turns her radio up louder. After asking her to turn it down, Jill comes over to have coffee with him. At first, Jill does not realize Don's blind but soon becomes curious because he is the first blind person she has ever known. Jill tells Don that one of her favorite quotes is about butterflies being free. This makes Don create and sing a song while playing the guitar. When Don's mother comes for a visit, she gets worried that Jill will break Don's heart. She tries to get Jill to stop seeing him, but Jill has developed strong feelings for Don and believes Don's mother is actually the person that needs to get out of his life.
