Cannibals is a 1977 Italian horror film directed by Umberto Lenzi. The story follows a group of tourists who venture deep into the Amazon rainforest and stumble upon a tribe of cannibals. The film begins with a mysterious man paddling a canoe down a river. As he navigates the treacherous waters, he hears strange noises coming from the rainforest. We soon learn that he is a photographer named Robert Harper, who has been hired by a businessman named Mr. Kerman to document the jungle.

Harper arrives in New York and meets with Kerman, who tells him about a missing documentary crew that was last seen in the Amazon. Kerman offers Harper a large sum of money to find the crew and retrieve their footage. Harper accepts the job and sets out for the rainforest.

Harper, along with his girlfriend Pat and a group of other tourists, travel down the river in search of the missing crew. As they move deeper into the jungle, they encounter various dangers including quicksand, snakes, and a group of hostile natives. The group eventually stumbles upon the missing documentary crew, who have been killed and partially eaten by a tribe of cannibals.

The rest of the film focuses on the tourists' attempts to escape the cannibal tribe and make their way back to civilization. Along the way, they encounter more danger, including a crocodile attack and a harrowing journey through a treacherous cave system.

The film is notorious for its graphic violence and depictions of cannibalism. Scenes of the tourists being captured, tortured, and killed by the cannibals are extremely unsettling and brutal. Additionally, there are scenes that depict real animal cruelty, including a live turtle being decapitated and a monkey having its skull crushed.

Despite the controversy surrounding its content, Cannibals was a financial success and spawned a wave of similarly themed horror films in Italy. The film has since become a cult classic among horror fans, thanks in part to its gruesome special effects and unforgettable scenes of violence.

Overall, Cannibals is a visceral and disturbing horror film that is not for the faint of heart. Its graphic depictions of violence and cannibalism are sure to shock and unsettle viewers, but for those who can stomach it, the film offers a unique and unforgettable cinematic experience.
