The Covenant is a ninety-seven minute long, PG-13 supernatural action thriller which was written by J. S. Cardone amd directed by Renny Harlin. The plot starts in colonial America, where a quintet of families among Massachusetts' colony of Ipswich, Danvers, Parry, Garwin, Tyler, and Collins decide to form a covenant of secrecy that will eternally guard them and their supernatural abilities from the puritanical witch-hunters. This Covenant thankfully allows their entire colony to evade the Salem Witch Trials. However, the Collins family goes too far, causing them to forever be banished from Ipswich. Notably, the Collinses are not only exiled from the Ipswich colony, but are cursed as well. This curse denies them from accessing any of the arcane energy which the remaining four families continue to enjoy. Time jumps ahead to the current century, with the four firstborn sons of Ipswich forming an elite clique within a prestigious private school. These "Sons of Ipswich," Caleb (played by Steven Straight), Pogue (played by Taylor Kitsch), Reid (played by Toby Hemingway), and Tyler (Chase Crwaford) are the bad boys of Spenser Academy. The boys also happen to share a centuries-old secret; all of them are warlocks descended from the coven which was founded back in 1692. Between this occult heritage and their familial vow of secrecy, the boys' families have been well-served by "the Power." The Power is a magical conduit of power which contains a nearly infinite amount of arcane energies and potential. However, excessively tapping into the Power winds up expending the user's vitality and life force. All male children of the remaining families have a link to The Power and must battle with its seductive nature for the their entire lives. Eventually, Chase, the son from the banished fifth family arrives with a threat to the boys. As a Collins, Chase is denied access to The Power, but has been studying up on the history of the Danvers, Parry, Garwin, and Tyler families. He arrives and delivers an ultimatum to the boys. Chase he will kill the others' loved ones unless the boys grant him dominion over their portions of The Power. The Sons figure out that they must defeat Chase in order to stop him and to preserve their Covenant. The film culminates with the "lead" warlock, Caleb Danvers, taking on an empowered Chase Collins which includes a bout of hurling multicolored, purple blasts of arcane energies back and forth.
