Chrysalis is a French science fiction film that explores human identity as well as murder. The main character is David Hoffman, a police officer. David has been on the trail of a dangerous man named Dimitry Nicolov who is involved in the trafficking of humans. David's only true goal in life is catching Nicolov because, several years ago, Nicolov murdered David's partner and wife.

As David attempts to track down Nicolov, the trail leads him to a murder investigation that may have ties to Nicolov. The murder victim is a teenage girl. The murder is a strange one, as the girl displays odd scars and has suffered some unique trauma. As he investigates the murder, David finds ties to a particular hospital run by a doctor named Brugen.

On the outside, Brugen's clinic seems to be nothing more than a place where people can have any type of plastic surgery they desire performed. However, as David digs deeper, he realizes that the plastic surgery clinic is just a front. In reality, the clinic is a place where Brugen can experiment. Brugen is trying to capture the essence of identity, memory and spirit and use it to do incredible things, including changing the way people think or even bringing people back from the dead.

At first, David is completely shocked by what he has discovered. However, he soon realizes that the murder victim and Brugen's clinic are intricately tied to Nicolov and his human trafficking ring. As David becomes more involved in the case, he realizes that he has uncovered something that may have huge consequences. He must now discover how everything is connected and how it can affect people. Then, David may be able to stop Nicolov.
