Cymbeline is a movie based on William Shakespeare's play of the same name. It is a tale of love, loyalty, deception, and power struggle, set in a present-day American city. The film follows the story of Cymbeline, the King of Britain played by Ed Harris, and his daughter Imogen, played by Dakota Johnson. The king has remarried a woman named the Queen, played by Milla Jovovich, who has a son named Cloten, played by Anton Yelchin. Cloten is arrogant and cruel, and he seeks to marry Imogen, who is already in love with a poor but nobleman named Posthumus, played by Penn Badgley.

Posthumus is banished from Britain by Cymbeline, which leads to a series of misunderstandings and deceptions. Posthumus meets a man named Iachimo, played by Ethan Hawke, who bets him that he can seduce Imogen. Iachimo travels to Britain and successfully convinces Imogen that he slept with her, which leads to her exile as well. Imogen disguises herself as a man and travels to Rome to find Posthumus, who, in a fit of jealousy, orders her execution.

Meanwhile, Cymbeline faces a power struggle with the Roman Emperor played by Geraldine Chaplin, who demands the return of tribute from Britain. Cymbeline refuses, and war ensues. Imogen and Posthumus reunite in Rome and hatch a plan to clear their names and expose Iachimo's deception. They return to Britain just in time to help Cymbeline and his army defeat the Romans and restore order to the kingdom.

The movie is a modern-day adaptation of Shakespeare's play, but it retains much of the original dialogue and themes. It explores the age-old themes of loyalty, family, and honor, as well as the corrupting influence of power and greed. It also features an impressive cast, including Helen Mirren as Cymbeline's advisor, Claire Bloom as Imogen's long-lost mother, and John Leguizamo as a loyal servant to Posthumus.

Cymbeline also showcases some impressive visual effects, particularly in the battle scenes between the Britons and the Romans. The cinematography is stunning, and the score by David Ludwig perfectly complements the action on screen.

Overall, Cymbeline is a must-watch for Shakespeare fans and anyone who loves a good story of love, loyalty, and redemption. The movie delivers a fresh take on the classic play, thanks to the excellent performances and direction by Michael Almereyda.

Cymbeline is a 1982 drama with a runtime of 2 hours and 53 minutes.
