Darkness Rising is a 2017 horror movie that focuses on the story of Madison Shaw (played by Tara Holt), a young woman who returns to her childhood home to confront the traumatic events of her past. Madison is accompanied by her boyfriend Jake (played by Bryce Johnson) and her younger sister Izzy (played by Katrina Law). However, shortly after arriving at the house, the trio discovers that they are not alone in the creepy and isolated property.

The movie begins with a prologue that takes place in 1987. We see a pregnant woman named Gabrielle (played by Heather Mazur) being held captive by a cult leader named Jacob (played by Ted Raimi). Gabrielle manages to escape and give birth to her daughter Madison in the woods, but Jacob chases her down and brutally murders her. Madison is then rescued by a group of police officers and grows up as an orphan. Fast forward to the present day, and Madison is now a successful writer, with a troubled past.

After returning to her childhood home, Madison becomes gradually more disconcerted by strange occurrences and hallucinations. She sees visions of her late mother and strange apparitions tormenting her. As the days and nights progress, Madison becomes increasingly paranoid and convinced that there is a malevolent presence in the house. Meanwhile, Jake and Izzy view her with a mixture of concern and skepticism, dismissing her claims as the result of her traumatic past.

As the trio continues to explore the house, they slowly uncover evidence of Jacob's cult and their twisted rituals. They find an underground lair filled with creepy symbols, children's toys, and a bed with restraints. They uncover evidence that suggests that Madison's mother was a member of the cult and was trying to protect her daughter from the malevolent forces at work. They also discover that Madison's mother had a twin sister, who may have played a crucial role in the events that led to Gabrielle's death.

The film is visually stunning, with hauntingly beautiful cinematography that captures the creepy and foreboding atmosphere of the house. The sound design is excellent as well, with lots of eerie ambient sounds and ominous music that ratchets up the tension and suspense. The performances are solid across the board, with Tara Holt delivering a particularly impressive turn as Madison, convincingly conveying her character's fear and paranoia.

Overall, Darkness Rising is a compelling horror movie that successfully builds a creepy atmosphere and delivers plenty of scares. It's a little slow-paced in parts, but it's worth sticking with for the satisfying payoff. It's a great choice for fans of slow-burn horror movies that emphasize atmosphere and tension over jump scares and gore. If you're in the mood for a well-crafted and creepy horror movie, give Darkness Rising a watch.

Darkness Rising is a 2017 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 21 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.3.
